Boston Red Sox Blanked by Mariners

The Red Sox struck out 13 times against Felix Hernandez in a 1-0 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Thursday. John Jaso singled home the game-winning run for Seattle in the bottom of the ninth.

The Red Sox dropped the ball and their first game of their seven game road trip against the Mariners. Seattle starter Felix Hernandez matched a career high with 13 strikeouts in a five hit complete game shutout, dominating the Sox in his fifth career shutout. Boston starter Franklin Morales matched Hernandez through seven shutout innings, striking out seven in the no decision. The Mariners broke the deadlock in the bottom of the ninth after pinch hitter John Jaso singled home Casper Wells, who was out before Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalammacchia dropped the throw from Cody Ross, allowing the M's to take game one of their four game set 1-0.
