The Red Sox topped the Rays on Friday, 3-1. David Ortiz homered and Pedro Ciriaco had three hits and drove in two runs for Boston, who got five shutout innings from starter Franklin Morales.

The Red Sox edged the Rays in their series opener at Tropicana Field. David Ortiz blasted his 23rd home run of the season in the first and in the second Pedro Ciraco drove in two with a single to center in support of starter Franklin Morales. Morales picked up his second win of the season with five shut out innings while striking out five as the Sox beat the Rays, 3-1.
