Boston Red Sox Lose Stunner to Rays

Vincente Padilla surrendered the game-winning home run to B.J. Upton during a six-run ninth inning in the Red Sox 7-4 defeat to the Rays. Jose Iglesias hit his first career home run in the loss.

The Red Sox fell apart in the ninth inning against the Rays in Tampa Thursday night. Boston starter Clay Buchholz received a no-decision despite tossing seven scoreless innings. Rookie Jose Iglesias hit his first career home run in the top of the ninth to give the Sox a 4-1 advantage. But Aaron Bailey couldn't close things out. He surrendered an RBI single to Carlos Pena and a game-tying two-run single to Desmond Jennings before being replaced by Vicente Padilla. B.J. Upton greeted Padilla with a walk-off three-run homer to center that capped a six run bottom of the ninth in Tampa's 7-4 come from behind victory.
