Ciriaco, Red Sox Earn Split with Yankees

The Boston Red Sox lost the first game of a doubleheader to the New York Yankees 6-1 but rebounded in the nightcap behind Pedro Ciriaco's 3-for-5, 3-RBI performance, going on to win 9-5.

The Yankees and Red Sox split their day-night doubleheader at Fenway Park on Saturday. Andrew Jones hit two of the four New York home runs to lead the Bombers' 11-hit attack in game one. Freddy Garcia allowed one run on six hits over six-and-two-third innings in the Yankees' 6-1 win. Jones hit his third homer of the day in the nightcap but it came in a losing effort. Pedro Ciriaco was the hitting star for Boston. The unknown 27-year old went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored. The Red Sox scored 3 times in the sixth and 4 more in the seventh as they went on to defeat the Yankees 9-5.
