The Boston Red Sox dropped the opener of a three-game series with the Blue Jays 7-5 on Friday night. The nightmare continues for the Red Sox, who have now lost eight of their last nine games.

Mauro Gomez drove in one with a single and Dustin Pedroia's homer pulled the sox within two, but in the ninth Colby Rasmus provided some valuable insurance for the Jays with a two run shot to extend the lead to 7-3. In the home half of the ninth, Gomez delivered again with a two run shot to left to pull the Sox within two, however the rally would fall short as boston was edged by Toronto 7-5 from Fenway Park.
