The sputtering Red Sox fell short in their series opener against the Blue Jays. Toronto jumped out to a 5-0 lead after five innings but the Sox would chip away. Mauro Gomez drove in one with a single and Dustin Pedroia's homer pulled the sox within two, but in the ninth Colby Rasmus provided some valuable insurance for the Jays with a two run shot to extend the lead to 7-3.
