The Boston Red Sox managed just two hits on Thursday as they were shut out at home by the Minnesota Twins, 5-0. Jon Lester fell to 5-9 on the season despite pitching eight solid innings.

The Red Sox were shut out in their series opener with the Twins at Fenway Park. Boston starter Jon Lester struck out seven over 8 innings, but allowed three runs in the loss. Denard Span opened the scoring with an RBI double in the third and shortstop Brian Dozier's fifth homer of the season blew the game open for the Twins. The Boston lineup combined for just two hits on the night, both coming off Minnesota starter Samuel Deduno who improved to 3-0 on the year with six shutout innings as the Twins blanked the Sox, 5-0.
