The Red Sox snapped their six-game skid against the Blue Jays by taking the series opener Friday night. Boston hurler Daisuke Matsuzaka surrendered four runs on three hits while striking out five through five and a third innings but was not a factor in the decision. Brett Lawrie's RBI double tied the game at five in the bottom of the eighth. But in the visiting half of the ninth, Mauro Gomez's two-run triple gave the Sox the lead for good as Boston bested Toronto 8-5.
